These are scary and amazing times we are living in

These are scary and amazing times we are living in. The power of protest has brought us into so many conversations that people would have thought to be insane a year ago. I feel like the world is on the cusp of another revolution and it feels amazing.
Two things. First, this EP cover I had the amazing chance to shoot for @deathvalleygirls is out today. To get to shoot an EP Vicover for a Daniel Johnston song done by Death Valley Girls. I dont know what to say. It doesn’t get much better than that. Thanks to all these just lovely people. Thanks @suicidesqueeze . RIP Daniel Johnston. Up on @floodmagazine and out today.

DVG released a round of signed copies and donated the money to NAACP. If you feel so inclined you may also look into donating money to @innocenceproject, @austinjusticecoalition or your local group/charity helping people out in this time. Comment below if you know of more.
Second, I'm doing a couple of photo series called Projected Revolution and Oklahoma Prison Portraits, or something of that nature. Feel free to comment or message me if you've been moved by or participated in the protests. It doesn't matter what city you are in. Feel free to comment or tag people if you've had any experience in the prison system and have any interest in telling your story. Again, I'm in Oklahoma right now but it doesn't matter what city or state you are in.

A few years ago I saw a video called “I saw a Tiger” You’ll know what I’m talking about soon enough. And I found out the guy in them was from Oklahoma. And he sold Tigers to Shaq. And then a LOT of other things happened.
I dipped my toe, but I never got all the way into documentary film making. However, I always said if I did, this is the thing I would want to make a documentary about. Well, someone did it and a couple days ago it finally came to Netflix

I’ll say this as one of these rare breeds that just doesn’t like true crime TV shows. The new documentary series Tiger King about Joe Exotic is something special.

From the archives. A few pics I shot one night when I was downtown in Austin doing @angelolsenmusic & @hand.habits for @blareca Magazine at the Paramount Theatre.
I typically try to let pictures speak for themselves, but sometimes it hits you when you're out. Mostly shooting alone. Every person has a different story. The artist, the fans, the people who can't go inside. I don't think people's political beliefs always matter as much as their will to move in the right direction. Don't ever let your party paint you into a corner or stunt your ability to discern information. No matter what you think, I think you can acknowledge this country has a ways to go.

I like to shoot anywhere that may be misunderstood. Las Vegas is a great example.
I think most people think of it as either some kind of douchehaven of America or an adult disneyland. But, the world’s not all black and white.
People don't choose where they are born. And to say they choose where they end up is only a half truth. Your environment lends to your view of the world. If your environment is powerful enough it can influence who you are.
You might consider yourself lucky if you spend enough days under to the sun to personally get to shape who you are. And to be proud of your place in the world. Most of us are just surviving. With our creativity or will in one hand and our dues and debt in the other.

Working almost 100% freelance has been a rocky road.
The past couple months have been a whirlwind. I feel amazing to be half way caught up on work finally. As a former shy little kid who grew up to be a community college flunky, I feel like I've learned one important lesson on this trip. Gratitude. Thanks to everyone who helps keep this photography endeavor alive, your mere existence is paramount.
I feel like I haven’t had the chance to thank everyone individually hired me for a project, so you here we go.
Serene Bacigalupi, first off for opening a store in Brooklyn. Congrats on everything. I was blown away to shoot with @ninaburns from America's next top model. Ive been shown time and time again that you don't have to be a dick to get things done. Professionalism is just respect and kindness.

Just a real pleasure. Big thank you to @sxsw for having me back and everyone that hired me as a roaming wastiod. I learned how to survive on bloody mary’s and cold brew. A couple favorite pics.

About 5 years ago .. give or take a week. I set off for my first photo tour; thanks to Impose Magazine.
I flew to Seattle and we traveled down the coast shooting shows all the way South to Austin for SXSW.
The working photo tour has become a staple for my livelihood, inspiration and heart.
In a couple days I take flight to shoot my first Florida beach wedding thanks to Gennsee and Kai. ♥️ The next day I will load my camera & hangover onto a plane and fly straight to Austin to shoot for SXSW. I’ll be in town all week. A couple weeks downtime in OK and I’m back in NYC for some music and the grand opening of Leroy’s Place in Brooklyn.

It has been brought to my attention that I was somehow nominated for best photographer in Norman.

I don’t know how that happened, but thanks to anyone who voted for me or has encouraged me to go on. It probably wasn’t always good advice, but somehow it has worked out.
I kind of envision myself as the the token weirdo photographer of Oklahoma. It feels crazy and from time to time I feel outcast in the community I grew up in. Norman feels a little more straight laced every day. Not to mention the amazing amount of talent that seems to come out of this small college city. So this comes as a big surprise and an honor.

Can you tell I’m not good at taking compliments? Anyways, if you feel so inclined, you can vote with the link in my bio for the next couple days. You’re all amazing my lovelies.
